Busy Life. No Write.

There are good problems, and there are bad problems. Lately, I've got too much other good and interesting work to do, so my writing has slowed down a bit. But fortunately, I've continued to work in my books. Here's another sample from Book Seven.

As always, these spreads are also with all of their little siblings on the Book Seven page.

  1. hey, i really like that you've layered up and used loads of different things on one page. im supposed to be keeping a diary about my time in london but i find i dont have a lot of time to layer up different materials so my pages look bland.
i was wondering if you had any advice as your pages look so personal and exciting! thanks, lucy

  2. Hi Lucy Anne,

In May I wrote a series of posts that show (and explain) step-by-step the evolution and layering of a page. Here's are the links:

    http://sketchbob.blogspot.com/2010/05/anatomy-of-page-step-one-breaking.html

    http://sketchbob.blogspot.com/2010/05/anatomy-of-page-step-two-blocking-in.html

My only other advice is to not worry about getting a page done each time you sit down to make art. Just add things when you can, covering them back up when it suits you. Everything you put into your book will help build texture (even if you paint right over it the next day).

    I hope this helps.

    Bob

  4. No problem, and sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I've been working on a total revamp of sketchbob.com (which will be ready to go live in the next few weeks). I'll take a look at your new posts tonight.
